Slightly delayed…

by Adrian on November 23, 2014

The ARC has been slightly delayed for a day due to bad (30 knot+) winds at the start in Gran Canaria.

These unusually windy conditions over the past few days has had us all on edge and has changed the atmosphere slightly from a tropical sailing adventure to an ocean ordeal with people being worried about seasickness and a rough, uncomfortable and potentially dangerous start to a long ocean journey.

We had unilaterally decided we wouldn’t depart today with the fleet this morning so were all happy when our decision was ratified and made official by the organisers for the entire fleet. The ARC guys have been using our boat for their daily fleet VHF broadcasts, so we all gathered around and we’re please as their announcement of a day’s delay meant we’ll still be able to start with all the other 180 yachts.

Conditions are improving slowly, so we will leave tomorrow (Monday 24th) slightly better prepared, slightly more rested and slightly less concerned about gales in slightly less wind.

Sorry to hear you couldn’t get going guys, must be so frustrating after all the preparations. Best wishes for a fresh start tomorrow. Think I recognise the man in the yellow shirt from ARC 2008 (Andrew Bishop)? That shirt Scrubs up wel! Have a great trip
