Pushing onwards

by Adrian on July 19, 2012

After 36 hours sailing yesterday and with the prospect of motor-sailing another night into SW headwinds and a choppy sea we decided to divert to a quiet anchorage for the night to get some decent rest.

We are pushing on as we have flights back to the UK from Copenhagen in a week’s time and need to get at least somewhere close so we can leave the boat safely and travel to the airport.

The long range forecast has strong SW winds for the next week so we need to cover as much ground as possible to save a horrible uncomfortable rush. The more we do now the less we have to do after the Olympics when we come back for the final leg back to the UK.

Ideally, we need to be back in Cherbourg by the end of August so the factory can do a few warranty repairs and maintenance jobs before we return to the UK for the Southampton boat show mid September.

Furthermore, we have just learnt that in addition to being in the show, Yachting Monthly want to do a boat test review on our boat when we sail from France to England at the start of September.

A bit more time pressure, which is why we’re trying to make as much progress now and hope the weather plays ball when we need to sail down from Germany to the Channel.
