We’ve just arrived in Russia!

We set out yesterday morning and arrived this afternoon. The wind was strong but from behind us, so we sailed most of the 190 miles throughout the day and night.

We had to do paperwork and customs clearance in a very official and bureaucratic customs building, but with the help of our agent this went smoothly and without problems – which given the amount of paperwork and planning we had to do to get the visas and official papers was a good job.

Amusingly, the customs office was staffed entirely by female officials in drab uniforms pushed to their limits by short skirts and high heeled shoes. A portent of things to come…

After about an hour we finally received our stamped passports and stamped crew list (to ensure we leave with the same crew). We were then informed we had 30 minutes to leave the dock and head to one of the allocated marinas.

Very tired now, after Jacqui and I had to hand helm for most of the night, so just 4 hours sleep for each of us. Evening meal then bed.

Time to explore St Petersburg tomorrow and the next few days…
