Its Baltic here!

Today we had a short day, setting off at 1300 (just) after a slow morning (for some people), runs through lovely open countryside along the Kiel canal and a work for Adrian.

We transited the last 15 miles of the canal to the eastern lock and finally passed through into the Baltic Sea. Two minutes later it started raining – the first rain of our trip.

We’re staying at Dustenbrook marina, just a couple of miles south of the locks towards near Kiel city centre as we’re having a down day tomorrow so we can let Sandra and Geoff go off on their own for a bit whilst Adrian does some work. Kiel is a good place apparently to stock up with food and supplies before the more expensive Baltic countries.

The marina is large, with plenty of room and depth, but has no local shops that we could find.

The harbourmaster was very helpful and the facilities good. There are showers at the marina, but you can also use the very posh yacht club facilities over the road. We didn’t as we felt a bit underdressed!
