Into the Ijsselmeer

by Adrian on May 26, 2012

After a slow start and pleasant morning runs we decided to leave the small marina and continue onwards to the inland seas of the Marketmeer and Ijsselmeer where we had arranged to meet Bart, the Dutch owner of Adrian and Jacqui’s previous boat the next day.

In lovely sunshine and brisk winds we practised a bit of sailing and did crew training with the old ones.

In the evening we decided to anchor out in the lee of a small island. A pleasant relaxing evening was spent with Geoff attempting a bit of fishing off the back, Jacqui and Adrian sipping Rum and cokes over a game of backgammon and Sandra wittering on and taking pictures of everything.

Geoff’s fishing was unsuccessful, so we reverted to plan A, which was a nice roasted beetroot salad with barbecued pork chop.

We were anchored in just 2m of water, so despite 20 knots of wind most of the night slept securely and peacefully, with just one 3am check by the skipper to see we were still in the same place.
